How quickly will I see results?

Typically you will notice internal results (i.e. quicker recovery time, lowered heart rate, more energy) within 1-2 weeks. External results (i.e. reduced inches, weight, defined musculature) will be noticed in 4-6 weeks.

Will I gain weight using weight?

Some do. Some don't. Regardless, if you do gain 1-2 pounds you should be reducing inches, therefore the gain would be reflected in a positive way.

Should I lose weight so that my fat won't turn to muscle?

Fat and muscle are 2 totally different types of tissue. One does not turn into the other. Therefore, to achieve a well-toned body you should use weights to lose fat.

If I have back problems or Osteoporosis should I work out with weights?

Weights and proper stretching will highly benefit almost ANY back-related problem. Without proper strengthening and stretching a constant contraction in the paravertabral muscles that extend along the spine will eventually cause compression at the body's core. Once sensory cells respond you will experience fatigue, irritation, soreness and unappeasable pain.

What is Core Training?

The "Core" is the point around which everything revolves. The "Core" muscles would be the abdominals, (rectus abdominus, transverse abdominus, int/external obliques) and the lower back (erector spine). The other parts involved would include aligning, stretching and strengthening the Sacrum, the Pelvis, the Hips, and the Hip Flexors. Weights will strengthen these areas, Yoga will help to relax and restore these areas.

FREQUENTLY ASKED YOGA QUESTIONS

Will Yoga help me lose weight?

A typical 1 hour power Yoga class exercised with proper breathing can burn an estimated 600 calories an hour. Along with the calories burned, Yoga will also elongate and build the muscles thereby giving the participant a strong lean body.

Is Yoga a religious practice?

American power Yoga has no religious connotation. Furthermore, at Primo Studio you will not practice chanting or any other "religious" practices.

What if I've never practiced Yoga?

Classes are all open to beginners. However, a first time participant may want to engage in a Gentle Yoga Class for Starters or arrange an appointment for a private Yoga Class.

Is Yoga good for stress?

The breathing and "in-the-momentness" that Yoga offers is a wonderful practice to help the body deal with ones reaction to stress. Remember it isn't the stress itself, it is our reaction to the stress that causes the wear and tear of our body. Once you allow the stress to manifest and actual postural changes occur (i.e. posterior tilted pelvis, sunken chest, rounded shoulders and drooping head) it is clear your body is living in the state of Stress. By practicing Yoga you may be able to reverse the body's "broken-down" appearance and further strengthen yourself physically and mentally to be better able to deal with the same stimulus (stress) but create different results.

What is Ashtanga?
By Barbara Tigue

Ashtanga or Power Yoga is a stronger, faster moving form of yoga. Ashtanga Yoga utilizes traditional (Hatha Yoga) poses but it combines them with the benefits of diaphramic breathing. While the poses understand the body's physiology, the breathing focuses the mind to become one with the body. All yoga consists of flowing movements, however, Power Yoga is faster and stronger in that it is executed with greater and more dynamic movements, as are required by our daily lives.

In Power Yoga we move, strengthen, stimulate, stretch, twist, juice, focus and balance every gland, organ, vessel, muscle, joint and bone in our bodies.

Yoga is not a religion. However, if you experience a moment of balance and harmony with yourself, you have made the connection.

Enjoy it.

Return to it often.
